Ancoats is a suburb district of Manchester. It is about 22 minutes from the Manchester Airport. Our taxi and minibus services   can take you too and from this locate to your hotel, business meeting, or favorite visitor’s attraction site.

Ancoats sits right next to the Manchester’s Commercial Centre. It used to be an industrial district but now is being changed into a residential area.

The Old English definition of Ancoats is "ana cots", which means “old cottages.” During the 14th century this little district was known as Elnecot. Before it was an industrial location, it was a fairly rural area. Now the plan is to create more homes and to build it into a residential section.

One of the major attractions of Ancoats is the Ashton Canal. This body of water has been a major route for industry transportation. Furthermore, it is the centre of activity for both locals and tourists.

Another site of historical significance in Ancoats is the Decker Mill. It was one of many factories created during the Industrial Revolution and beyond.

Ancoats is also historically known for another type of industry as well-spinning and weaving. William Plant Hat Works was one that operated on Great Ancoats Street until early 1970s.

Howard Spring, who wrote “Fame is the Spur” and Isabella Banks who wrote “The Manchester Man” originated from Ancoats. Thus, it is an additional reason why this little spot on the Manchester map is so well-known.

Later on in Ancoats history, over 50 acres of this area had been designated an official Conservation Area. Several historical buildings in the area were preserved as well. This project was headed by groups such as the Ancoats Buildings Preservation Trust and the Ancoats Urban Village Company, among at least a handful of others.

As you can see, there is plenty of reason why Ancoats is a common business or tourist travel destination. This location is developing at a moderately fast pace. Therefore, it has great potential as a location for corporate events, business meetings, and other regional events.

Ancoats is also visited by international travelers from time to time as well. This area has been studied quite a bit as it has been reformed from what it used to be.

Ancoats is the home to a large number of sporting and leisure activities. Both locals and tourists can enjoy Angling, Fishing, Scuba Diving, Basketball, Bowls, Canal Cruising, and Mountaineering. Certain outdoors enthusiasts will also camp for a day, or swim at nearby beaches.
