One of the townships of Bury bears the same name as the borough-Bury. Besides the township of Bury, the Metropolitan Borough of Bury consists of five additional townships.
Bury, the main town of this borough, is actually divided into Bury West and Bury East.
Bury West is located on the same side of the River Irwell where Bolton is located. On the other side of the river is Bury East.
Places of interest within the town of Bury include the following: The East Lancashire Railway, Bury Museum and Art Gallery, and the Bury Castle.
The Railway runs from Bury to Heywood Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall. It was established in 1844 and ran until 1859. The Bury Museum and Art Gallery includes collections of paintings from artists Turner, Cox, and De Wint.
The Bury Castle was completed in 1469. It has been designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It was built by Sir Thomas Pilkington.
Bury is also known for its world famous market which has taken place on the same grounds for almost 600 years now. The original license was granted as early as 1444. The Bury Market was voted ‘British Market of the Year’ in 2006.

Ramsbottom-This town is located on the border of Lancashire and Greater Manchester. The resident population of this township is about 14, 635. Ramsbottom is divided between Rossendale and Bury government Boroughs.
Remarkable Ramsbottom attractions and Landmarks include the Peel Monument, Tilted Vase, and Nuttal Park. The Peel Monument can be seen from the skyline looking south towards Bury.
The Tilted Vase is a sculpture located in the Market Place, and it was created by Edward Allington. The Nuttall Park is a great place to sit back and relax and appreciate nature, and it is also a great place to participate in recreational sports.

Tottington-This town in Bury is located at the entrance of the Rossendale Valley. A variety of different landmarks and places of interest make this town known for what it is.
One of the significant of these landmarks is the Centograph next to the local library. Another area of interest is the discontinued railroad line which used to run to Holcomb Brook.
The Tottington Dungeon is another area of major interest. It is located where Market Street, Turton Road, and Harwood Road meet.
Since the 1990s, the town of Tottington has grown tremendously. New developments of homes now sit on lots that used to be owned by industries and commercial businesses.
This town is noted for one more thing as well-cricket. Tottington St. Johns is the official name of the team that plays this sport at Crompton Meadows which is located on Beryl Avenue.

Radcliffe-It is located about four kilometers southwest of Bury. It is also about 6.5 miles (10.6 km) north-northwest of Manchester. It takes about 30 minutes to arrive by taxi from this location to the Manchester Airport.
Radcliffe is one of many former mill towns located in the Greater Manchester Area. Cotton spinning was one of the major industries that brought revenue to the area during the Industrial Revolution.
Radcliffe is considered a sports’ town. It is home to the Radcliffe Borough Football club as well as the Radcliffe Cricket Club. Famous Radcliffe-native Borough Players include Paul Gascoigne and Matt Derbyshire.
Sir Frank Worrell is a well-known long-timer Cricket player who originated from this area. A street was named after him. Another renowned Cricket icon was Sir Garfield Sobers.
Whitefield-Whitefield officially became a town in 1866. It used to be a part of the Manor of Pilkington and parish of Bury. This town is easily accessible by our taxi services because it is only about 25 minutes from the airport.
Places of interest in Whitefield include the Nature Trail and Red Rose Forest. These are two of the best places to hike in the area, and the Red Rose Forest is the largest of its kind in England.
Another major attraction is the Irwell Valley Way. This is the location of the oldest railroad line that ran from Radcliffe to Clifton. The Clifton Viaduct was also a part of this route, and is better known as the “Thirteen Arches”.

Unsworth-This is a residential area of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury. It has undergone major transformation from the 1950s to the present. It used to be an area of vast open country side. However, in times it became more industrialised.
Unsworth is most known for its two famous pubs. One is the Lord Clive which is named after the Clive of India. The other is called The Dragon, representing the legend of Unsworth who slew a fierce dragon within this village.
It is now known as Sunny Bank and provides a main route from Bury to Manchester. It is very easy to travel from this location by taxi to the local airport, at only about 28 minutes away.
Prestwich-This particular town lies a mere 7.6 km from Bury, and about 5.3 km from Northwest Manchester. It lies right next to the River Irwell.
Significant historical sites in this town include the Church of St. Mary the Virgin and the ancient Prestwich-cum-Oldham parish. The Church of St. Mary has been labeled of Grade I interest, and the Prestwich parish is also of great historical significance to scholars.
The oldest part of Prestwich is known to the locals simply as “Prestwich Village”. It is developed around what is called Bury New Road.
Prestwich is also an area of importance for religious and cultural scholars, particular of the Jewish interest. A large community of Jewish people has claimed residence in an area bordered with Higher Broughton. This is the second largest Orthodox Jew community in the United Kingdom.
Places of natural interest in Prestwich include Heaton Park and Prestwich Forest Park. These are visited quite frequently throughout the year.
Sports lovers would be happy to know that this area is rich with sports’ opportunities. Prestwich is home to the amateur team Prestwich Heys, which now plays in the Manchester Football League. Other local teams include the Bury Amateurs and the Prestwich Marauders.
