Warburton-This village lies between the boroughs of Greater Manchester and Warrington on the south side of the River Mersey. It is only about 20 minutes from the Manchester Airport.
Warburton is located nearby Altrincham. Today it is primarily a rural area, and has been a site of historical and archeological exploration. Artifacts collected suggest that this particular area was first developed during the Bronze Age, onto the Iron Age, and on into Roman periods.
Among the artifacts located in this area include a flint blade, ancient tools, a snake bracelet, and quern stones.
One of the oldest churches is located in this village as well-St Werburgh’s Church. It is only one of 29 surviving timber built churches in both England and Wales. It was estimated to have been built sometime in the 14th Century.
Another church located in this area is the one built by John Douglas in the 1880s. It is characterised by its red sandstone and clay tile roof. This church and the St. Werburgh’s Church are both Grade I listed.
Besides the churches mentioned above, 15 other buildings of great historical significance are located in this area. The farm house on Moss Lane and the barn on Paddock lane are among the ones on the Grade II listed buildings.
