Times had changed since the Industrial Revolution, however. Since then, the industrial centre has moved from this town to Manchester.

Salford/Salford Quays is home to professional sports teams as well, which is another reason visitors are drawn to this location. The Salford City Reds, a famous rugby club is one of them. Additionally, Salford is home to International Triathlon Union events which take place annually.
Water sports also are very popular in this area. The Royal Yachting Association is one club that offers training for sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, and rowing to people of all experience levels.
Another reason Salford is now very popular is because of the new Media City that has been established here. Several media outlets such as BBC will soon be moved to Pier 9 of Salford Quays
